With this box, we focus on The Hungry Ghost Festival, also known as Zhongyuan Festival. The Hungry Ghost Festival is a traditional Chinese event celebrated on the 15th day of the seventh lunar month, often referred to as Ghost Month. During this time, it is believed that the gates of the underworld open, allowing spirits to roam the earth. To appease these restless souls, people offer food, incense, and other rituals to ensure the spirits are satisfied and do not cause harm. The festival is marked by ceremonies, such as burning joss paper (representing money and goods) and setting out elaborate feasts, both at home and in temples. It’s a time of respect for ancestors and a reminder of the delicate balance between the living and the spiritual world in Chinese culture.  This year the festival fell on the 18th August.
